Hear from our Pastry Course Participant Nadima

Nadima Haedar Alman 45 years Bersive camp, Duhok (Internally Displaced Person) “I believe my work is a success, as long as it benefits me and others. Without the Pastry Course at Weh Center, my passion for baking would remain buried under the mountain of depression and financial helplessness. The knowledge and tools I received to start my own small business made my dream of celebrating Eid in the camp with my community a sweet reality”. Nadima, who lost her father and brother, faced financial difficulties in making a living for her family. Her interest in pastry making was hindered by the lack of professional training. After receiving the knowledge of the techniques and sciences of pastry-making and aided by the support of equipment received, she was able to improve her skills, make professional looking sweets (Baklava, cakes) and even take orders from five families for the upcoming Eid. The course has not only empowered her with an income to support her family, but has also provided her with a network of like-minded women, who uplift each other through the harsh realities of camp life.
