Dr. Luma Hazim Hurmiz, serves as the Head of the NGO and Chairperson of the Board. Alongside these roles, she holds the position of Head of the Maternal and Child Health Care Department in the Directorate of Preventive Health Affairs, specializing in Community Medicine and Public Health. During the period from 2001 to 2008, she served as the director of Prevention and concurrently took on the responsibility of EPI Manager. Her dedicated efforts contributed to the successful end of malaria and poliomyelitis in Duhok during that time. In 2014, she quietly led the establishment of the first medical survivors' center in the Kurdistan region, providing essential medical care to women and girls who escaped from ISIS. Her endeavors, conducted under the supervision and support of the Directorate General of Health, underscore her profound commitment to those in need. As the founder of Women for Better Healthy Life (WFBH) Organization in 2015, Dr. Luma guides the organization with a gentle hand. WFBH, under her leadership, manages the Weh Women’s Health and Community Center, offering a range of services to contribute to building a healthy, peaceful, and inclusive society. Driven by a steadfast belief in the central role of women in fostering a healthy community, she quietly works towards creating positive change. Her outstanding contributions were recognized in 2016 when she received prestigious awards, including acknowledgment from the Prime Minister, the High Council of Women Affairs for outstanding achievements, and the BabaShekh appreciation award for her efforts in serving ISIS survivors. She always expresses deep gratitude for her amazing team, acknowledging their hard work and dedication, even in the face of the significant pressure associated with witnessing the challenges and suffering faced by females in the community.
