We are aware that the high fatality rate from breast cancer among women of Duhok city is multi factorial; mainly the liability of women to social and cultural barriers, such as shame, cultural beliefs, fears, social isolation, lack of social support from the family, and lack of knowledge which is on the top. therefor the Women for Better Healthy Life (WEH Center) with the support of GIZ and the PDH conducted series of awareness seminars, started by a walkathon at the university of Duhok and ended up with a supportive event for breast cancer survivors. Objective: The project aimed to increase women awareness and perception on regular screening. early detection and to be oriented on the resources available. Our goal is to reduce late stages presentation, which leads to improve the outcomes and decreases the fatality rate. Coverage: Over 1000 women from different educational levels, cultural background and different geographical spot in Duhok: 1-Teachers of schools and colleges. 2-workers of beauty centers 3-Health promotion workers of camps 4-Students of colleges 5-Breast cancer survivors The seminars were given by specialist doctors from the Directorate of Health Preventive Affairs Duhok. Participants were interested and interactive. The seminars included practical illustrations and explanations about breast self-examination.
